Udaipur was established in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the capital of Mewar district. Maharana Udai Singh Ji laid out a home in the new district. Later in 1568 when the Mughal Emperor Akbar attacked and caught the stronghold of Chittor, Udai Singh moved the cash-flow to his new home. Also, the new spot was named Udaipur.
